One of the key themes for all of our CSWs is the importance of trust and active intervention.
Being attentive is a critical element to being effective in this role, and Sebastien Tekou is no exception. CSWs like Sebastien help consumers manage social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. From counseling to emergency response and advocacy, their work is diverse, driven by their commitment to helping people.
Sebastien began his journey as a Community Support Worker (CSW) at the 702 Northeast office in September of 2021. For Sebastien, the chance to uplift vulnerable individuals and improve their quality-of-life fuels his passion. His sense of fulfillment comes from knowing that his efforts directly impact clients' well-being and their ability to reassess their place in society.
One unforgettable moment in Sebastien’s career was when he helped a consumer transition from suicidal thoughts to a more positive outlook. Through active support, he provided her with the resources she needed and helped her secure a job as a special police officer. This life-changing intervention, along with following up on her housing application, had a lasting impact on her life. She expressed deep gratitude, saying she would never forget how her CSW helped her become a better person.
Sebastien’s approach is rooted in active listening, building trust, and being available when needed. His commitment to raising mental health awareness and offering coping resources is clear in everything he does. With ongoing training and support from Preventive Measures, Sebastien continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those he serves.
